The services we offer

Quantity Surveying

As a Professional Quantity Surveying (PQS) firm of chartered surveyors, BWA provides independent, expert advice on costs, contracts, and commercial management across the entire lifecycle of your construction project.

As independent Quantity Surveyors, we help you plan, control, and manage the financial side of your construction project from start to finish. Our goal is simple — to protect your investment and ensure value for money at every stage.

Our Professional Quantity Surveying services include:

At the outset, we provide the financial insight you need to decide whether your project is viable. Through feasibility and / or affordability studies, benchmarking, and preliminary budgets, we establish what your ideas might cost and identify the key factors influencing those costs — such as site conditions, materials, fees or design complexity.

As your design develops, we prepare detailed elemental cost plans that break down your project into components (structure, finishes, services, etc.) with cost allowances for each. We track how design changes affect costs and suggest value-driven alternatives where needed.

Our regular design cost reviews and reports keep your design team and stakeholders focused on affordability, ensuring there are no financial surprises later. If we need to identify smarter ways to achieve your goals at lower costs, we will introduce value engineering reviews to your project.

We guide you through the procurement process — advising on the best route to market (traditional, design & build, frameworks, etc.), preparing pricing schedules or Bills of Quantities, and managing the tender process from start to finish (which includes responding to queries and analysing contractor bids as well as tender reporting with recommendation for appointment).

You’ll receive a clear comparison of bids, highlighting any risks or exclusions, along with our professional recommendation for appointment. This ensures a fair, transparent, and competitive outcome.

Once on site, we monitor costs closely to keep your project on budget. We assess progress monthly and issue valuations and certifying fair payments to the contractor to ensure payments reflect real development. We manage any design or scope changes and provide regular financial updates.

By acting as your commercial representative, we help prevent disputes, manage risk, and maintain full cost visibility until completion. We will provide:

  • Contract Administration support to ensure contract terms, notices, and procedures are properly followed.
  • Cashflow forecasting to keep you informed about monthly and total project spending.

As the project concludes, we prepare, negotiate and settle the final account, reconciling all approved variations, payments, and adjustments. We also provide a concise post-project review, summarising key outcomes, lessons learned and benchmarks for future projects.

You’ll finish the project with full financial certainty — knowing the final cost, where money was spent, and how the budget was managed.

For clients seeking a more strategic approach, we offer additional services such as:

  • Whole Life Cycle Costing: assessing long-term maintenance and operational costs.
  • Capital Allowances: helping claim tax relief claims on eligible costs.

These services bring deeper insight, stronger control, and lasting value to your construction investment.
